It takes about an hour to reach Hounslow from our office via the District line, then the Piccadilly line. We’ve surveyed houses right across the borough, Hounslow East, West, and South, plus neighbouring Hammersmith and Ealing.

One of London’s largest Indian communities

Around 21.1% of Hounslow’s population is Indian, the second highest share of any London borough after Harrow. Add a further 6.1% who are Pakistani, in fact, and it’s clear why we’ve worked with so many Indian-origin families here over the years. The borough as a whole is genuinely international too; its own council reports 188 different languages spoken across just under 300,000 residents. So, that range shows up directly in the properties we visit.

Matching the report to your visa route

Partner, fiancé(e), proposed civil partner, and dependent relative applications under Appendix FM all face the same core test. The accommodation must be adequate, and it can’t tip into statutory overcrowding once the applicant arrives. By contrast, visit visas aren’t held to that formal test, though a report still helps show genuine ties and suitable accommodation. Let us know your route when you book, and we’ll shape the report accordingly.

The two overcrowding tests

Section 325 of the Housing Act 1985 sets the Room Standard. Two people of the opposite sex, aged 10 or over and not a couple, breach it if they’d have to share a bedroom. Even so, under-10s don’t count.

Section 326 sets the Space Standard instead. It’s whichever figure is lower between two calculations. By room count, one room permits 2 people. Two rooms permit 3. Three permit 5. Four permit 7½. Five or more permit 2 each.

By floor area, measured room by room, it works like this. Under 50 square feet (4.65 square metres) counts for nobody. 50 to 70 (up to 6.5) counts for half a person. 70 to 90 (up to 8.37) counts for one. 90 to 110 (up to 10.22) counts for one and a half. 110 or more (10.22 metres) counts for two. Under-ones don’t count at all, and one to tens count as half.

So, we work through both properly on every visit. An inaccurate figure can genuinely hold up an application.

What else gets checked

We also assess the property under the Housing Act 2004’s Housing Health and Safety Rating System: damp, ventilation, fire risk, general condition. First, every room gets measured on the day, not assumed from a floor plan. Finally, the finished report follows the format Entry Clearance Officers expect under Appendix FM.

The wider area

Acton Town sits along the same District line, and our Acton Town property inspection report page covers that specifically. Closer to Hounslow itself, our Osterley property inspection report page applies, and for Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith, see our dedicated page there instead. South Ealing and Northfields sit within the same general patch too, so a single call is usually enough to confirm coverage.

Questions Hounslow applicants ask

Does the distance from your office add to the waiting time?

Not really, since it’s a fixed journey we build into scheduling, the same as any other booking.

Do you have experience with Indian and Pakistani family visa cases here?

Yes, it’s a substantial part of what we see across the borough.

Is it your own inspector who visits, or someone local you’ve arranged separately?

Always our own, every time.

Ready to book? Call 020 3488 4930 (landline) or 07912 351 329 (mobile), email info@gvec.co.uk, or use our contact form with your address and deadline.
