What the EUSS Family Permit Actually Requires

An EU Settlement Scheme Family Permit is available to family members of an EEA or Swiss citizen who holds, or is eligible for, settled or pre-settled status in the UK, or certain eligible persons of Northern Ireland. Eligibility depends on your relationship to the sponsor and the sponsor’s own status. There is no financial maintenance test and no accommodation or overcrowding requirement written into this route at all.

Why No Property Inspection Report Is Needed Here

Appendix FM routes such as spouse, partner, and fiancé visas include an explicit adequate accommodation requirement, using the Housing Act 1985 overcrowding definition. Appendix EU (Family Permit) simply does not include an equivalent test. The application focuses on proving the family relationship and the sponsor’s qualifying status, not on the physical suitability of any property.

When You Might Still Need One

If your circumstances change to a different route. If your relationship with the EEA sponsor ends, or you later need to apply under a different visa category such as a spouse or partner visa, that route’s own accommodation requirement would then apply, and a report may become genuinely relevant.

If you are supporting a different family member under a different scheme. Some households have more than one family member applying under different routes at the same time, some of which do carry an accommodation requirement even if the EUSS application itself does not.
